Emma Stone has humorously declared a ceasefire on her public teasing of her friend, Taylor Swift, waving the white flag amid media buzz. The actress sparked headlines when she playfully referred to Taylor as an ‘a–hole’.
“I definitely won’t make a joke like that again,” Emma remarked recently.
The playful banter began at the 2024 Golden Globes, where Emma clinched the Best Film Actress in a Comedy or Musical award for Poor Things. Taylor’s enthusiastic cheers for her friend were caught on camera as the La La Land actress accepted her accolade.
“Headlines really pulled it out of context,” remarked Emma Stone about her joke.
At the Golden Globes, a reporter asked Emma about Taylor’s enthusiastic reaction to her win.
“I don’t know if you noticed, but when you won, Taylor Swift gave you a huge applause. What are your thoughts on her cheering your win?” the reporter inquired.
“What an a–hole, am I right?” Emma joked in her trademark style, infused with sarcasm and affection.
“I’ve known her for almost 20 years, so I’m very happy she was there. She was also nominated tonight, which was wonderful. And yes, what an a–hole.”
Reflecting on her remarks weeks later in an interview with Variety, Emma admitted to being a “dope” and pledged not to call Taylor an a–hole again.
“We’ve been friends for a really long time,” Emma Stone said of Taylor Swift.
“… We’ve been friends for a really long time. I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18 … ” Emma told Vanity Fair last year. “She’s a wonderful friend. She blows my mind.”
